PDF Writer is basically a virtual printer, but you may configure its behavior in various ways, on a tabbed settings panel, which can be opened with an executable file. The application allows you to specify a default name for the output documents, by simply typing a name or by inserting wildcards. The same can be done with other details, like author, title, subject or keywords. Besides saving documents as PDFs, the application is capable of saving them in other graphical formats, such as JPG, PNG, BMP and others. Another output method is to merge the file to another PDF, by appending or superimposing.

Output documents can be watermarked automatically, with custom text and font settings. Additionally, you can set up owner and user passwords, restrict certain functions, like printing the PDF document or copying its contents and sign the documents with a digital certificate if you have one.

PDF Writer can perform various actions after it generates a PDF document or an image. Depending on your settings, the application may display prompts to open the output file, overwrite files with the same name, run external programs, if the conversion is successful or not and more. To convert a document, you only need to hit the printing option in any text editor and select BioPDF PDF Writer as the default printer. Certain options, which should be changed for individual documents, can be displayed on a tabbed window, before starting the conversion process.
